Restoration

There's a little bit of rot in the deck.

Most of
the canoes that come to my shop for repairs or restoration are 40 to 80
years old and many are still with their original owners or families.
I believe this is a testament to the durability of this type of
construction.
One of the many attributes of the woodcanvas canoe is that, with the
exception of the seat frames, it is held together entirely with
mechanical fastenings. This makes it possible to replace any damaged or
deteriorated parts and return the boat to nearly new condition. Even
boats that have been severely damaged by collision abuse or neglect can
be restored.
The two examples pictured here are somewhat extreme but still very
restorable. When you consider that a new canoe can cost three to four
thousand dollars and factor in the sentimental value of an old canoe,
restoration may be the best choice.
